Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
Who we are
FoundersCompass is operated by Leo Xin in Queensland, Australia. This policy is written to align with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you have any question about it, email leo@founderscompass.com.au — that address goes to a person, not a queue.
What we collect
- Your email address — the only thing our signup form asks for. We deliberately don't ask for your name, phone number, or anything else.
- Email engagement data — our email platform records whether emails were delivered, opened, or clicked, and stores anything you write to us if you reply.
- Standard technical logs — like almost every website, our hosting provider records basic technical data when you visit (IP address, browser type, pages requested). We use this only for security and to keep the site running.
What we use it for
- Sending you the Australian Business Startup Checklist you requested.
- Sending our short email series about starting a business in Australia.
- Occasional updates from FoundersCompass — including when our course opens.
You consented to these emails when you entered your address and submitted the form (Spam Act 2003). Every email identifies us as the sender and includes a working one-click unsubscribe link.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address or any other information about you. To anyone. That's not a temporary position — it's the deal.
Who handles your data on our behalf
We use a small number of established service providers to run FoundersCompass. They process your data only to provide their service to us:
- Kit (kit.com) — our email platform, which stores the subscriber list and sends our emails. Based in the United States.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and provides security. Operates globally.
- Google Workspace — our business email. Operates globally.
This means your email address may be stored or processed outside Australia, mainly in the United States. Each of these providers publishes its own privacy policy and maintains its own security program. Beyond these providers, we would only disclose your information if the law required it.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not run analytics or advertising trackers today. Cloudflare may set strictly functional cookies for security purposes. Links in our emails contain standard click-tracking so we know which content is useful. If we later add analytics or an advertising pixel (for example, when we start running ads), we will update this policy first — check the date at the top.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address while you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, you come off the active list immediately; our email platform retains a suppression record of your address so we can make sure we never email you again.
Your rights
- Unsubscribe — one click at the bottom of any email. No login, no "are you sure", no retention offer.
- Access or correction — email us and we'll tell you what we hold about you (it's almost certainly just your email address) or correct it.
- Deletion — email us and we'll delete your data from our systems, subject to the suppression record above.
We action these requests within 30 days, usually much faster.
Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your information, email leo@founderscompass.com.au and we'll sort it out directly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. We won't quietly expand what we do with your information.
